Welcome to Tute!

We know learning online might be new for you, and that's okay. This guide shows you how everything works, what your lessons will look like, and how to get the most out of your time with us.

The good news? It's actually really fun. Our teachers are brilliant, and lots of students tell us they enjoy learning this way — it doesn't take long to get into the flow.

There are a few quick questions along the way. They're not a test — just a way of making sure everything makes sense. At the end, we'll ask how you're feeling before you start.

Take your time, explore, and enjoy. We can't wait to see you in lessons! 🎉

Section 1 of 8

🎓 Your lessons — what to expect

Learning online may be a little different, but every lesson is designed to help you feel confident, supported, and ready to succeed.

🧑‍🏫

Your teachers will…

  • Welcome you at the start of each session
  • Plan lessons that build skills and confidence
  • Set clear expectations so everyone feels safe and respected
  • Give you helpful feedback after each lesson

They'll expect you to…

  • Be on time and stay for the whole session
  • Try your best and take part
  • Be kind and respectful to others
  • Ask for help if you need it — we're here to support you
🧠

In a lesson…

Your teacher guides you through step by step, explains every activity, and makes sure everyone's involved. Expect quizzes, polls, discussion and plenty of doing — online lessons at Tute are hands-on, not just watching a screen.

📅

Why showing up matters

Every lesson builds on the last. Being there helps you feel connected and motivated, and weekly lessons give your day structure and purpose. Turning up really does make a difference.

📼 Don't worry if you miss something! All lessons are recorded, so you can go back, rewatch, and catch up anytime — though live lessons are best for asking questions and joining in.

☁️ The Learning Cloud — your online classroom

The Learning Cloud is where your live lessons happen. When you join, you'll see your teacher, other students, and everything you need to take part. It's a safe, supportive space where everyone's here to learn — just like you.

The best bit? You choose how you join in. Some students chat away all lesson, some prefer to listen first and jump in when they're ready — both are absolutely fine. There's no being picked on to answer, no standing up in front of the class. Just lots of different ways to take part, and you pick the ones that feel right:

💬

The chat

Type your answers, ask questions, share your ideas — the chat is the heartbeat of every lesson. If speaking out loud isn't your thing, the chat is all you need.

Raise your hand

Got something to say? Tap the hand button and your teacher will bring you in when you're ready — nobody gets talked over.

🎯

Polls, quizzes & games

Lessons aren't just listening. You'll vote in polls, race through quizzes and get stuck into activities that make the time fly.

🎙️

Your microphone

Feel like talking? Switch on your mic and join the conversation. Not feeling it today? That's completely fine too — it's always your choice.

🔒

Private messages

Got a question you'd rather not ask in front of everyone? Message your teacher one-to-one — nobody else can see it.

🎨

Whiteboard & emojis

Draw, write and work things out together on the shared whiteboard — and drop an emoji any time to show how you're feeling.

💡 Every lesson is recorded, so you can watch it back later to revise or catch up on anything you missed. And don't worry about learning all the buttons — after a couple of lessons the Learning Cloud feels like second nature, and your teacher will help you every step of the way.

✨ At Tute, we SHINE!

Our SHINE values help make Tute a great place to learn. They guide how we treat each other, how we learn, and how we work as a team.

S

Supportive

We help each other, work as a team, and show kindness, understanding and respect.

H

Honest

We take responsibility, speak up, and do the right thing — even when it's hard.

I

Inclusive

We welcome everyone and respect different ideas, needs and backgrounds.

N

Nurturing

We take care of ourselves and others — everyone should feel happy and confident.

E

Engaged

We turn up, take part, stay focused, and listen actively.

🌟 Why it matters: when we all follow SHINE, our lessons feel safe, supportive and positive — and that helps everyone succeed.

⭐ Your progress, stars and check-ins

After every session, your teacher completes three quick assessments based on what they saw in the lesson. They're there to support you — not to catch you out.

📈

Progress

How well you worked towards the lesson objective.

Engagement

How actively and positively you took part.

🤝

Behaviour

How respectfully and safely you took part in the lesson.

📝 Check your assessments in your portal after each lesson. Remember: it's not about getting everything right every time — it's about learning, improving, and building confidence as you go.

The star system

⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Every lesson is a fresh start — you begin with 3 stars. Keep them by listening respectfully, using polite language, following instructions, waiting your turn, and staying focused.

If you lose a star

Your teacher will calmly explain what you need to improve. Losing a star isn't the end of the lesson — it's a chance to reset.

⏸️

If you lose all 3

You'll take a 10-minute break from the Learning Cloud tools. You can still see and hear the lesson and message your teacher privately — then rejoin and continue learning.

😊 Wednesday check-ins

Every Wednesday when you log in, a quick pop-up asks two questions: how confident you feel and how much you're enjoying your lessons — just sliders from 1 to 5, and it takes a few seconds.

🔒 Your answers are private and never used to grade you. They help us spot when someone needs more support, and celebrate when things are going well. So when it pops up — take a moment, be honest, and let us know how you're feeling.

🛡️ Staying safe online

Your safety is really important to us — in your lessons and online in general. Here are the key things to remember:

🤐

Keep personal info private

Never share your full name, address, phone number or social media accounts in lessons.

💬

Use the private chat

If you feel worried or need to speak to your teacher or mentor quietly.

💛

Be kind and respectful

In the chat and during sessions — everyone deserves to feel safe and supported.

🔑

Protect your passwords

Keep them private, and log out when you're done.

🗣️ If something doesn't feel right, talk to someone you trust — your mentor, your teacher, or the safeguarding team. You can also visit the Student Hub for more help and advice on staying safe and looking after your wellbeing.
